L’activitat de recerca de la Càtedra Universitat-Empresa es centra en l'activitat innovadora de les empreses dintre del sistema d'innovació. Els estudis poden tenir una doble dimensió: una més microeconòmica en analitzar el comportament individual dels agents i, una més macroeconòmica, en analitzar el comportant agregat.

D’una manera més específica, els camps d’interès de la Càtedra són:

  1. Analitzar els determinants de l’activitat innovadora segons les tipologies del Manual d’Oslo (2005): innovacions en producte, en procés, en màrqueting i organitzatives.
  2. Avaluar l’impacte de la innovació en l’empresa, així com en els territoris a on s’ubiquen.
  3. Realitzar comparatives entre territoris.
  4. Realitzar l’avaluació de polítiques públiques sobre el comportament empresarial tals com la localització de parcs científics i tecnològics, subsidis públics, etc.
  5. Adoptar una escala regional a través del concepte de sistema regional d’innovació (els agents que participen en el procés innovador a Catalunya).
  6. Adoptar una escala sectorial amb el concepte de sistema sectorial d’innovació (els agents que participen en les agrupacions sectorials i tecnològiques més significatives: tecnologies TIC i serveis avançats adreçats a les empreses, indústria de l’automoció, sistema financer, etc.).

Els resultats d’aquests treballs es publicaran en revistes internacionals de gran prestigi com ara Research Policy, Growth and Change, Economics of Innovation and News Technology, Review of Industrial Organization, Small Business Economics i Industry and Innovation.
