2023 Master's Summer School on Global Citizenship & Peace 

THEME: Climate Emergency and Action

DATES: 1-10 August, 2023

The Master's Summer School for Global Citizenship and Peace is a unique immersion program which is usually hosted by Hiroshima University in Japan. The seminar welcomes students from around the world from INU member universities and is structured around the 6th August commemoration of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

The course involves an intensive series of seminars and lectures by faculty from INU member universities and concludes with a simulation of an international decision-making process. The purpose of the seminar is to explore current geo-political climate debates with a view to evaluate local, regional and global dynamics concerning energy security, sustainability and development.

The program features:

Pre-readings and preparation of a paper to be discussed with the group;
An intensive educational program with lectures and workshops with students from across the globe; 
Academic experts and guest speakers from around the world;
United Nations General Assembly Role Play;
An integrated cultural program that introduces a unique side of Hiroshima, which includes a visit to the Peace Memorial Museum and admission to attend the annual Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony on 6 August.
Pre-course assignment

In preparation for the course, graduate students write a 4000-word paper on one of four topics related to the theme of the program, which they present during the Masters Summer School. The themes for the paper will relate to the overall theme of the Master' Summer School which changes each year.

Eligibility

Graduate students in the relevant field from Universitat Rovira i Virgili are eligible to apply.

HOW TO APPLY

Fill in the Application Form and send the required documents by email to mobility.out(ELIMINAR)@urv.cat (subject: Student Seminar a Hiroshima: sol·licitud)

  1. Proof of English level
  2. Transcript of records in English (last academic year or semester)

The application must be completed in English.

Deadline: 12th April, 2023

Criteria for the selection of candidates are the following:

  • Demonstrated high academic standards
  • Motivation stated in the appliction form (including an explanation on how the applicant intends to use the experience to support a study and career plan)
  • Good knowledge of the English language (minimum B2)
  • Engagement in global issues
  • Students who have done an academic exchange will be given priority

JASSO: Student Exchange Support Program (Scholarship for Short - Term Study in Japan) 2023

Qualifications and conditions:

Applicants must fulfill the following qualifications and conditions:

  1. Applicants must have the nationality of a country which has diplomatic relations with Japanese Government.
    1. Applicants from Taiwan and Palestine are also acceptable.
    2. Applicants must NOT hold Japanese nationality at the time of applying which includes applicants with dual nationality.
  2. Applicants must be accepted by a Japanese university under a student exchange agreement or under such with their home university.
  3. Applicants must have JASSO GPA* of 2.30 or higher for the last academic year. If the previous year's point average is not available, it can be calculated based on the academic record from the previous semester.
  4. Applicants must be those who are experiencing financial difficulties that make it difficult for them to study in Japan without JASSO support
  5. Applicants must resume their studies or obtain degrees at their home universities after studying in Japan.
  6. Applicants must NOT receive scholarships from other sources for the total amount of 80,000 yen or higher to study in Japan. (Not applicable to student loans or travel expenses.)

The International Center will contact all students selected for taking part in the seminar to prepare their applications to JASSO scholarship. All information and required documents must be send to JASSO by the International Center.

Top candidates can also receive a scholarship covering travel costs if they apply to the I-Networks URV scholarship following the instructions of the I-Networks call (to be launched).
