Volatolomic approaches for improving success rates in assisted reproductive technology

Títol projecte Volatolomic approaches for improving success rates in assisted reproductive technology

Descripció/abstract Volatolomics has emerged as a new frontier in deciphering unreached matters related with health conditions. Volatolomics research is based on the study of the volatile compounds emitted by biological samples. It was demonstrated that the volatiles emitted though breath, skin, feces, urine or cells can provide useful information for the diagnosis of an important number of diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, or even neurodegenerative disorders. We have very recently demonstrated that the embryos do also emit volatiles during their development, while genetical disorders alter the pattern of the released volatiles. In the present project, we aim at assessing volatolomic techniques for the non-invasive assessment of embryos quality in order to select the most viable ones for transfer. The ultimate goal of this project is to achieve higher success rates in the in vitro fertilisation.
