Born in Tarragona, Xavier Prats graduated in Sociology from the Complutense University in Madrid and he went on to specialise in Cooperation for Development in the Centre International des Hautes Études Méditerranéennes in Paris and in European Studies at the College of Europe in Bruges (Belgium).

For years, Xavier Prats has worked at the heart of the European institutions as one of the politicians responsible for education, culture and, most recently, public health. He has made a contribution, then, to the construction of Europe in areas that are of fundamental importance for European citizens, who have seen that women have now acquired more rights than ever before in a world still marked by gender inequality.

In his acceptance speech, he spoke of the values underlying the construction of European integration and, in particular, about the transforming power of education. Considering all the challenges that Europe has already risen to in the field of education, he outlined that the future of education will be more collaborative and interdisciplinary than it is now.
