“I think the most important element of the programme is that it provides the student with a deep knowledge of two subjects that are increasingly important and necessary in modern society. I think it is an interesting course because it provides students with a profile that is in great demand in the current employment market and one which will only become more essential in the coming years.”

“I completed my doctoral thesis on cryptography and information security in 1991. At that time, information security was only really of interest to banks, diplomats, and the military. Nowadays, the lives of everyone depend on security and cryptography due to the spread of information technologies such as mobile telephones, e-commerce, the internet of things, digital signatures, etc. Furthermore, privacy is important now that we live in a society based on data and in which algorithms are making more and more decisions for and about us on the basis of the trail of information that we leave behind. My classes on security and privacy are not just based on my own experience as a researcher but also closely examine huge joint projects between companies and governments (Huawei, U.S. Census Bureau, Google, Eurostat, Yahoo, etc).”

“At the end of the 1980 I came into contact with the world of artificial intelligence and have worked in this field ever since. Nowadays, there is no longer any doubt about the importance of AI in all areas of life, and I would like to have the opportunity to train the next generation of researchers in this technology at the URV.”

“I am convinced that in the very near future the only official and accepted way that people will be able to identify themselves will be through their biometric data, for example, their fingerprints or through images of their faces or irises. The time for physical keys, passwords and identity cards is over. For this reason, it is essential for an advanced master's degree to have a subject that explains these issues.”
