Aurora

The Universitat Rovira i Virgili is part of Aurora: a multicampus of universities from nine countries promoted by the European Commission to improve the quality of higher education and make it possible for students to obtain a degree by combining studies in several EU countries.

Aurora's mission is aligned with the URV's commitment to internationalize teaching and research and to train students with the skills, abilities and attitude to address social challenges in an innovative way.

To fulfil them, this strategic alliance of European universities promotes social transformation through training opportunities, mobility and intensive cooperation of students and teaching, research, technical and service staff.

Priority areas of action

Teaching

It enhances the educational experience focused on societal needs, while strengthening students’ competencies and emphasizing internationalization practices to prepare them for a globally diverse and integrated world.

The Aurora Alliance has created the Aurora Competence Framework, a teaching and learning model with five challenge-based centres:

  • Sustainability and climate change
  • Digital society and global citizenship
  • Health and wellness
  • Culture: diversities and identities
  • Social entrepreneurship and innovation

Research and innovation

As a consortium of research-focused universities with an impact on society, it promotes diversity and inclusion with opportunities for academic staff from disadvantaged backgrounds.

In addition, it creates the conditions for collaboration between researchers from different universities, participation in interdisciplinary research, knowledge exchange and shared access to scientific infrastructure.

Social commitment

It strengthens collaboration with partners in Europe and beyond European borders to reduce research gaps, and focuses on dissemination initiatives in Central and Eastern Europe.

Sustainability

It is at the heart of Aurora's mission, which aligns its actions with the EU's 2030 Agenda and the United Nations' SDGs and establishes green offices in the alliance's universities.

The main objective is to radically reduce the carbon footprint of its campuses, and for this purpose it has developed the Sustainable Campus Action Plan and the Joint Footprint Reduction Plan.

The URV leads the internationalization work

The URV jointly leads with the University of Iceland the work package on student and astaff mobility and exchanges. The aim of this part of the project is to integrate internationalization as a mean to achieve higher quality education and research and, at the same time, to facilitate equal access to internationalization.

The University brings especially the experience in the internationalization programmes at home, such as the internationalization of the curriculum, the pedagogical methodology of collaborative, online and international learning, the short-term intensive programs that use innovative teaching methods and online cooperation and other virtual experiences.
