Olga Xirinacs i Díaz, renowned writer and poet from Tarragona, has been awarded an honorary degree by the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, sponsored by Montserrat Palau Vergés, a lecturer from the Department of Catalan Studies.

Xirinacs has written poems, novels, short stories, novels for young people, essays and poetic prose. She has been awarded some of the most important prizes of Catalan literature in poetry and narrative, such as the Sant Jordi and the Serra d'Or Critics prizes for Al meu cap una llosa (On my Head, a Tombstone); the Carles Riba prize for Llavis que dansen (Lips that Dance), the Sèrie Negra de Novel·la prize for No jugueu al cementiri (Do Not Play in the Cemetery), and the Jaume Fuster Prize of the Association of Catalan Language Writers.
