Service Learning Experiences in the Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology


Socio-affective Development

  • Summary:This experience will be used so that students enrolled in the subject Socio-affective Development, can observe and put into practice some of the knowledge obtained in the lectures and seminars. It is intended that the students of the first year of psychology carry out a practical and experiential activity outside the classroom, and thus acquire a vision of the applicability of the theoretical content and the professional possibilities that the Degree has. It is hoped that the activity will be motivating and beneficial for their teaching-learning process. Part of the theoretical content of this subject deals with the main changes that occur during adolescence and also in the aging process, focusing on the affective and social aspects. Thus, several groups of students will carry out a 2-session talk-workshop project in coordination with Joventut de Tarragona (Tarragona Jove) and Gent Gran Activa, for the work of socio-emotional skills in each of these stages of the life cycle . Broadly speaking, the aim is to promote self-knowledge and reflection in a playful and dynamic way. The reflective practice will consist of a session of exposure of the experiences, with the establishment of a debate with the whole class.

Psychology of the education I

  • Summary: The project of learning service of subject of psychology of the education I, looks for to enter to the educational world to the students, by means of a practical of orientation to the university life. The learning service bases in three moments:
  • Evaluation of the needs of information of the students of first and second of A levels, in relation to the university life.
  • Diagnosis. The students URV elaborates an informative material with what has detected, headed to the students of A levels.
  • Open session of orientation. The student URV realises 1 Session of orientation of introduction to the university life to him the students adjusted with the specific needs of information of each group of A levels.

Psychopedagogical evaluation in education

  • Community organization: Practice School
  • Summary: This experience consists into collaborate with the educational center and the Psychopedagogical Counseling Team regarding the work of attending to the diversity of students. The tasks to be carried out are different. On the one hand, to detect pupils with possible special educational needs, learning disorders, high capacities. On the other hand, collaborate in the evaluation and follow-up of students with special educational needs, learning disorders as well as students with high capacities, delayed learning.

Cooperation Practicum

  • Community organization: El Sueño de la Campana Foundation
  • Summary: The practicum is the result of a cooperation agreement signed in the 2004-2005 academic year between the URV School of Education Sciences and Psychology (FCEP) and the El Sueño de la Campana Foundation of San Ramón in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. The main aim of the project approved by the Faculty Board and realized since the academic cours 2012-13 until now is to include, as part of our students' training, supportive external practicums that will help them become both good professionals and individuals who are sensitive to the problems of the modern world and who understand how people in other countries who suffer from poverty and marginalization live. The URV School of Education Sciences and Psychology participates in the educational, psychological and social aspects of the collaboration agreement and works mainly with the most vulnerable groups, such as children, teenagers and women.

Final Degree Project - Cooperation Practicum

  • Summary: Students who have participated in the above practicum during the academic year 2012-13 until now can conduct their final project on the same subject.

Final Degree Project - Learning methodological strategies for children with Asperger

  • Community organization: Asperger Association (ASPERCAMP)
  • Summary: This proposal appeared in the first edition of the Social Projects Marketplace held in Reus. It describes an interdisciplinary project realized during the course 2014-15 that tries to find solutions to the educational challenges facing boys and girls with Asperger. Participants come from the Degree in Telematic Engineering, the Master's Degree in Educational Technology: E-Learning and Knowledge Management, and the Master's Degree in Teacher Training. The main problem faced by children with Asperger is that most of the school's activities are intended for neurotypical children. The goal of the project is to provide children with Asperger methodological strategies so that they can learn by using new technologies.  On the basis of interviews with teachers, psychologists and other professionals working with Asperger children, the psychology student will make a proposal to improve and adapt the children's learning methodologies in the classroom.

Final Degree Project - Study on the relationship between emotions and body behavior in people suffering from Parkinson

  • Community organization: Parkinson Association of the Province of Tarragona
  • Summary: This project can be traced back to the I Social Projects Marketplace held in the Economics and Business Faculty in Reus. In recent years the members of the Parkinson Association of the Province of Tarragona have found a relation between the emotions and the bodily disorders that Parkinson patients suffer. Therefore, this project realized the academic year 2014-15 tries to study and understand how the emotions can have a negative impact on bodily problems, so that better care can be provided to those affected.

Final Degree Project - Study on the relationship between Parkinson's and mental health

  • Community organization: Parkinson Association of the Province of Tarragona
  • Summary: This project can be traced back to the I Social Projects Marketplace held in the Economics and Business Faculty in Reus. In recent years the members of the Parkinson Association of the Province of Tarragona have found that Parkinson's disease is accompanied by other health disorders and that comorbidity seems to be greater in young people. The project, from the academic year 2014-15, aims to evaluate patients diagnosed with Parkinson's to determine whether they present psychopathological symptoms, and check whether the psychopathological symptomatology has been diagnosed or is masked by the primary disorder. The results will be publicly presented to the organization and its stakeholders to raise awareness of the difficulties that these patients have and the disruptive effect that the disease can have on their relationships.

Final Degree Project - Creation and design of Mutual Support Groups for Care-providing Families

  • Community organization: Xarxa de Suport a Famílies Cuidadores in Tarragona.
  • Summary: This project arises from the II Market of Social Projects. The students who realized this project the academic course 2015-16 have joined the meetings of the Network in order to obtain first-hand information and to be able to adapt the project to the real needs. Once the needs have been identified, the programming and subsequent implementation and development of two activities have been developed: mutual assistance groups for caregivers and grieving groups. The APS experience has been carried out in a complementary way between a student of the Degree of Social Work and the Degree of Psychology, and the results have allowed the design of a project of Mutual Assistance Groups for family caregivers in a transversal way, integrating the partners of different entities and affectations. In addition, a pilot action has been developed with a Mutual Aid Group and the evaluation has been carried out.

Final Degree Project - The influence of living with domestic and farm animals on the emotional development of children from 2 to 6 years

  • Community organization: Refugi d'animals "Mon La Bassa", Petits Voladors School.
  • Summary: This project aims to investigate the influence of domestic and farm animals on the emotional development of children between the ages of 2 and 6 on a school farm. On the one hand, the project realized the academic year of 2016-17 seeks to propose an objective evaluation model that will guide teaching approaches without neglecting the pedagogical orientation of the school. On the other hand, this experience also allows the students to observe how the multidisciplinary team works. The student has the opportunity to interact in a real environment and be able to propose creative and scientific interventions within a specific pedagogical model.

Final Degree Project - Design of evaluation indicators

  • Summary: This project arises from the Second Market of Social Projects of the URV. The project from the academic year 2016-17 consists of carrying out a study of the different programs and activities of intervention with older people to design indicators to evaluate the appropriateness and usefulness of the activities to be implemented, as well as the satisfaction of the target people.

Final Degree Project - Cognitive stimulation and inhibition capacity of elderly people

  • Community organization: Nostrallar Residence, Gent Gran de Reus Residence.
  • Summary: This project realized in the academic year of 2016-17 is based on the studies on inhibition by Hash and Zacks. According to these studies, the lower third-age performance in working memory is actually explained by the impairment of inhibition capacity. For this reason, in this project will be evaluated if the fact of performing sessions of cognitive stimulation to stimulate the inhibition capacity leads to an improvement of working memory. Specifically, the student will design activities for the elderly that will stimulate the capacity for inhibition, and will perform several sessions of cognitive stimulation in the two geriatric residences. It will also evaluate the working memory before beginning the intervention and once completed, to check if there are significant differences. It should be noted that in the sessions of cognitive stimulation, the inhibition capacity is not usually worked, so this study is novel and useful for the community, since it can lead to a better future of these sessions in the geriatric residences, improving the quality of life of residents.

Final Degree Project - Analysis of the profile and needs of the people consumers

  • Community organization: Interregional Association of Consumidors i Usuaris de Catalunya (AICUC)
  • Summary: Project from the academic year 2017-18 that consists in the analysis of the profile and needs of the consumers. At present, it costs to reach a society in process of constant digitalisation, change of habits and communication channels. It wants create a new brand and digital identity in order to arrive to the new profile of consumers, elaborating on-line communication strategies. The tasks to realise are: the reading and follow-up of the Statutes include in the code of consumption of Catalonia, the analysis of the profiles of the people consumers and users of AICUC and/or similar associations whit interviews and/or surveys, categorize the profile of these as his individual characteristics and of consumption and the process that has carried out in the association with regard to other profiles, realisation of a survey with the proposal of two thematic on the needs of the consumers (knows the relation between the subjects and the consumption, and the data on the knowledges of the organisms of consumption) and finally extract some conclusions on the analysis the profiles and needs of the consumers, synthesize them for his presentation and diffusion, with the purpose to extract proposals of performance for entities like AICUC.

Final Degree Project - Emotional awareness and social anxiety in children and young people with high abilities

  • Summary: Research project on emotional awareness and social anxiety in children and young people with high abilities, from the year 2021-2022. The aim of the research was to analyze the variables of emotional awareness and social anxiety in a sample of children and adolescents with abilities resident in the province of Tarragona. The results of the study can be used to establish programs for the prevention of anxiety and the promotion of well-being. The reflective practice instruments used were the reflective journal and the debate.

Psychogerontology and Psychomotor intervention

  • Community organizations: Catalonia la Pedrera Fundation- Social Space Tarragona, Gent Gran Retirement Home, Mare de Déu de la Merce Retirement Home, Jaume I de l'Espluga de Francolí Retirement Home, Retirement Nostrallar
  • Summary: In this experience students perform a social function of accompaniment and emotional support to seniors of different residences, facilitating intergenerational exchange. Students are aware of the needs of this group, which facilitates the commitment to ethics and citizen social responsibility and as professionals. It also allows students to observe how a multidisciplinary team works in a geriatric residence, especially the psychologist. It makes possible the students to contribute useful knowledge acquired in the field and to work on other practical and professional skills. To link the Service-Learning experience to two different subjects of the degree of psychology makes easy to have a broad vision of the tasks and activities of psychologist, who approach some areas in the ambit. Specifically, aspects linked to psychomotricity, cognitive and affective development and psychological intervention are worked. This experience allows the students to provide a social service to the community, since institutionalized older people tend to feel alone and disconnected from the rest of society. Some students have established links with the residents and continue to visit them once the experience is finished, they decide to volunteer in the field or consider it as a potential new option for their own professional future.

Educational Psychology II

  • Community organization: UTE Mercè Fontanilles Servei Resilis: Itineraris de Protecció Individualitzada.
  • Resum: All the students enrolled in the subject have completed half of the credits of the seminar in the form of the APS Program. The students have worked virtually, due to the situation of confinement due to the health crisis caused by COVID-19. The project has been carried out in collaboration with the Tarragona Individualized Protection Itineraries Service. The presentation session of the entity was done by videoconference and the students raised doubts and concerns. The aim of the project was to study the potential of ICTs, in particular social networks, in the education, development and socialization of adolescents who are under guardianship. The students have worked in groups of 4-5 members, with a total of 24 proposals. The project consisted of two parts, one more theoretical to contextualize the topic and another applied where they developed the proposal presented to the entity. A guide was provided to develop the proposal.

Final Project - Qualitative evaluation of social mentoring projects

  • Community organization: Zero Kilometer Association.
  • Resum: The initial objective of the project was to carry out a qualitative study that could bring innovations to the evaluation of the Rossinyol Project, which is being carried out by the entity in Tarragona and Girona. Due to the limitations arising from COVID-19, the student has seen the scope of his work limited. It was originally planned to obtain results with more descriptive nuances of the Rossinyol Project in Tarragona. Finally, a comparison has been made based on the reports of the two places where the service is offered, and the conclusions have indicated the aspects that make this social mentoring project strong, as well as its usefulness especially for to mentoring. The TFG has delved into social mentoring, how it has developed in Catalonia, what are the keys to success and how to evaluate them. The results of the comparison have illustrated a very applicable and interesting model and have strengthened its interest and social utility.
