Se licenció en Ciencias Química por la Universidad de Barcelona en 1991 y obtuvo el doctorado en Ingeniería Química por la Universitat Rovira i Virgili en 1997.

Después de una estancia de un año como investigador en la Universidad de Western Ontario, Canadá, regresó a Tarragona para ocupar una plaza de profesor titular de universidad en el departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica de la URV, dentro del área de Mecánica de Fluidos, de la cual es coordinador desde hace más de 10 años.

Forma parte del grupo de investigación ECoMMFiT (Experimentación, Computación y Modelización en Mecánica de Fluidos y Turbulencia) y del Center of Advanced Fluid Dynamics (Cadflud). Sus líneas básicas de investigación se centran en el análisis de datos, reconocimiento de patrones, lógica difusa y el análisis de imágenes, básicamente aplicadas al estudio de flujos turbulento, a la transferencia de calor y a flujos de interés biomédico.

Es coautor de 34 publicaciones en revistas internacionales, 67 congresos internacionales y en 15 conferencias nacionales. Ha dirigido 7 tesis doctorales i en el presente es el codirector de 2 tesis doctorales que están en desarrollo.
