Patronage at URV is the way in which companies, institutions and individuals can support research projects, scholarships, academic chairs and social initiatives that generate a real impact on the region. All patronage collaborations are managed with the guarantee and support of the URV Foundation, and may benefit from the tax incentives established under Spanish Law 49/2002 on the tax regime of non-profit entities and tax incentives for patronage.

What is patronage at URV?
Patronage is an altruistic contribution made by a company, institution or individual to support specific URV projects in research, education, scholarships or social action. Unlike sponsorship, patronage does not involve a direct commercial exchange: the patron contributes with a public service purpose and social return, and in exchange receives institutional recognition and the tax benefits established by law.
At URV, patronage is usually formalised through one- or two-year multi-annual agreements managed by the URV Foundation, which ensures transparency and monitoring of the use of the resources provided.
What types of projects can I support through patronage?
URV offers different collaboration pathways so you can choose the one that best fits the values and goals of your organisation:

- Scholarships and grants for talented students, including bachelor's and master's theses, doctoral dissertations and international mobility programmes.

How can I start a patronage collaboration with URV?
The process is simple, and the URV Foundation team will support you throughout:
- Initial contact: you tell us your areas of interest, motivation and objectives.
- Tailored proposal: we provide a selection of projects or lines of work aligned with your values, including budget, timeline and impact indicators.
- Agreement formalisation: we sign an agreement detailing contributions, duration, obligations and monitoring mechanisms.
- Follow-up and feedback: you receive periodic reports on progress and results, and can take part in related events.
Is sponsorship different from patronage?
Yes. Although often confused, they are two different legal and fiscal frameworks:
- Patronage is an altruistic contribution without commercial compensation. It is regulated by Law 49/2002 and grants direct tax deductions (up to 40% in corporate tax for multi-year donations).
- Sponsorship is a commercial agreement in which the company receives tangible benefits such as brand visibility, image association or advertising rights. It is regulated by the General Advertising Law 34/1988 and is treated as a promotional expense for tax purposes.
