Full annulment of registratiom due to serious illness

  • DESCRIPTION: Cessation of the academic and administrative procedures relating to a previously completed registration, with the consequent loss of the rights of examination and of the status of doctoral student and of the benefits attached to this status.

 Implementation course: 2025-26

Application procedure

Who

The interested party or the authorized person on presentation of the necessary identification.

Where

Applications must be presented via the online administrative procedures on the URV's intranet or the URV online registry.

When

From the sixth day after completing registration until 30 April.

How

By presenting the following documentation:

  • Application addressed to the head of the secretary's office, who, if applicable, will send it to the corresponding vice-rector's office.

  • Official medical certificate showing the date when the illness started and the estimated time for convalescence or medical reports issued by public health centers.

Resolution of the application

Who

Head of the Secretary's Office of the Faculty/School.

When

Whenever possible, when the application is made. At most, five days after presenting the application and the necessary documentation.

How

  • The interested party will be informed of the resolution and, if appropriate, their academic transcript will be updated.

  • The annulment of registration will be recorded on the computer system.

  • Doctoral students, except for those who are newly admitted, whose registration has been cancelled due to serious illness, will have a one academic year leave of absence due to illness automatically entered in their file by the Academic Management Service of the Campus/Faculty/School.

Cost

  • If the student's request for cancellation of their registration is accepted, they will be refunded the tuition fee. The amounts received for taxes, insurance and voluntary services, if applicable, cannot be refunded.
  • For the student's request for cancellation to be granted, the student must be up-to-date with their payments.
  • If the student has not paid the corresponding fees within the established deadlines, the University may automatically enforce the annulment, but the fees will remain outstanding and the doctoral student will not be able to register for any URV course until they rectify this situation. In accordance with the Decree on Public Prices, they will also not be able to register at any other Catalan university until they make the corresponding payment. Likewise, for as long as the fees remain unpaid, the doctoral student will not be issued with certificates, academic transcripts or other qualifications.

Observations

  • Students whose registration is annulled will lose their places and the registration will be null and void.
    • New students who are up-to-date with their payments will be returned the documents that they submitted when they registered, if applicable. Any student who wishes to resume the same programme of study will have to go through the pre-registration procedure again. The relevant information can be found here.
    • Provided they are up-to-date with their payments, other doctoral students who wish to continue on the same programme must apply to resume their studies during the academic year after the academic year of annulment. Once a full academic year has passed after the annulment, the student will be definitively withdrawn from the doctoral programme and will no longer be able to participate in it. If at some future date they wish to resume their doctoral studies, they will have to pre-register for a different doctoral programme.
  • If the doctoral student has applied for a grant, the secretary's office must inform the Academic Management Service.

If there are any differences between translations, the Catalan version prevails.
