The 19th Century, Reus and Its Points of Reference Chair

Approved by the Governing Council of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili on October 8, 2026, The 19th Century, Reus and Its Points of Reference Chair was created with the aim of promoting research, reflection and the dissemination of knowledge about the 19th century in Catalonia and Spain, with particular attention to the role of the city of Reus and its key figures in shaping contemporary Catalonia and Spain.

Promoted by the URV, MASERGRUP and Reus City Council, the Chair fosters an interdisciplinary approach to the economic, political, social and cultural history of this period, with particular emphasis on collective memory and citizens' agency in historical processes.

Through research, academic activities, publications and outreach initiatives, the Chair seeks to share historical knowledge with society and foster a better understanding of the past in order to interpret the present and address the challenges of the future.
