Commissioner for Relations with the Department of Education

José Miguel Jiménez González

The Commissioner's main objective is to establish a closer and more continuous relationship with the Department of Education in order to better respond to the needs of degree programmes linked to schools and educational centres, and to promote joint initiatives aimed at strengthening the University's Education degrees. As a member of the University Access Committee, the Commissioner also serves as a bridge to facilitate university access for more vulnerable groups, foster collaboration with secondary schools and support the University's science outreach activities for society.

Biography

I was born in Melilla in 1965 and hold a PhD in Education. I am a lecturer in the Department of Pedagogy at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. My professional career combines an initial period in social education and local government with a long-standing commitment to higher education, an experience that has given me a perspective closely connected to educational practice and the transformative role of education.

I have taught on a range of undergraduate and master's degree programmes, mainly in the fields of pedagogy, social education, inclusion and educational technology. Throughout my career, I have regarded teaching as one of the university's core missions, based on supporting students, maintaining academic rigour and fostering the education of future professionals. My research has focused on education, inclusion, equality and the prevention of gender-based violence, with particular attention to the rights and lived experiences of LGBTIQ+ communities.

Alongside my academic career, I have held several university leadership positions, including Head of the Department of Pedagogy, coordinator of academic programmes, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Education Sciences and Psychology, and Director of the Institute of Education Sciences. These roles have given me a comprehensive understanding of the university and its relationship with the education system, as well as a broad perspective on the challenges of teacher education and educational innovation.
