Health information
Non-European Union citizens
If you do not belong to any country in the European Union, you must have health insurance in Spain to enter the country. You can take out this insurance in your country of origin, although if you wish, the URV International Center can also provide you with information about it.
If you have any health problems during your stay, contact your insurance company to find out where to go or contact hosting(ELIMINAR)@urv.cat.
European Union citizens
It is important that before leaving your country of origin, you apply for the European Health Card (valid annually), which will cover your health expenses in Spain and any country in the European Union, minus repatriation, which is not covered unless you have your own additional insurance.
What to do if you need to see a doctor:
In Catalonia health care is provided at CAPs (Primary Health Care Centers) and Hospitals.
If you need to see a doctor, you must contact your referring CAP to make an appointment. If you have an urgent problem, but it is not an emergency, they will take care of you during regular business hours. Find in the following link the CAP center you belong to.
Before going to the CAP it is advisable to be registered and, in the case of non-EU people with a permit of more than 6 months, obtain the NIE card (TIE).
Displaced persons residing in Catalonia without an individual health card (TSI) or identification document for public health coverage must identify themselves in order to be vaccinated against Covid-19. This is why you need to contact your CAP (Primary Assistance Center) of reference. At the CAP you will be assigned a CIP (Personal Identification Code), you can apply for your TSI (Individual Health Card) and with it you can also access the virtual platform La Meva Salut.
You can find all the information related to vaccination and Covid-19 certificates on the following website or by calling 061 Salut Respon (24-hour phone, in languages).
Hospitals give assistance for emergencies, and you should go there when you have a serious emergency. You should only go to the emergency services when you really need them, that way we can avoid over-saturation of the services.
If you need medical assistance, it is important to bring a copy of your medical insurance or medical card, you may be asked to give it at the medical center.
