María Jiménez Herrera

Curriculum Vitae

I was born in Tarragona in 1966 and have been a member of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili community since 1997. I hold a PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology and am an Associate Professor at the URV, where I have developed my entire academic career. My academic background also includes studies in Nursing, Anthropology, Bioethics, Law and Criminology, providing me with an interdisciplinary foundation that has shaped my approach to teaching, research and service to the university.

I have taught mainly in the fields of bioethics, health law, history, the foundations of nursing science and advanced nursing care. I have also been involved in doctoral education and in several teaching innovation projects. Throughout my career, I have sought to combine teaching excellence with an interdisciplinary perspective and a strong commitment to educating future healthcare professionals.

My research has focused on applied ethics, oncology, critical care and moral sensitivity in nursing practice. I have carried out this work within established research groups and through national and international research projects. I completed my postdoctoral training with the PREHOSPEN research group at the University of Borås (Sweden), where I was subsequently appointed as a Visiting Professor.

Alongside my academic work, I have held several university management positions, including Secretary of both a faculty and a department, Head of the Department of Nursing, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, and Secretary General of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili from 2022 to 2026. These responsibilities have given me a broad understanding of how the institution operates and of the essential role played by its faculties, services and the people who make up the university community.
