Vice-Rector for Research, Doctoral Studies and Institutional Relations
Juan Antonio Duro Moreno
Curriculum Vitae
I was born in Terrassa in 1969. I hold a PhD in Economics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and am a Contracted Full Professor at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. I joined the URV in 2004 after an initial academic career at the UAB, motivated by the opportunity to contribute to a growing university with strong ties to its surrounding region. Since then, I have developed my teaching, research and academic management career at the URV, with a particular connection to the Terres de l'Ebre.
I have taught on undergraduate, master's and doctoral programmes, mainly in the field of economics. I have also supervised several doctoral theses and contributed to the training of new generations of researchers. Throughout my career, I have regarded teaching as one of the university's core missions, aimed not only at transmitting knowledge but also at fostering critical thinking.
My research focuses on environmental economics, ecological economics and tourism economics. I have published numerous scientific papers and served as principal investigator on competitive national and European research projects, while also participating in several international collaborations, particularly with the Institute of Social Ecology at BOKU University. My research has focused on resource consumption and economic growth, emissions and tourism seasonality, with particular attention to environmental challenges and regional development.
Alongside my academic work, I have held a range of university management positions, including Head of the Department of Economics, coordinator of doctoral programmes, Director of the Chair in Local and Regional Economics, and Vice-Rector for Economy, Infrastructure and Institutional Relations from 2022 to 2026. These responsibilities have given me a comprehensive understanding of how the university operates and of the strategic role that research and institutional relations play in the development of the URV.
