Vice-Rector for Academic Planning and Quality
Iolanda Tortajada Giménez
Curriculum Vitae
I was born in Barcelona in 1969 and studied Political Science and Sociology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Since 1993, I have taught in the field of communication at Ramon Llull University (1993–2000), the University of Barcelona (1998–2002), the University of Lleida (2003–2007), and the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, where I have been a member of the academic staff since 2007.
Throughout my career, I have held a range of academic management positions, including the coordination of external placements, master's and doctoral programmes, leading the implementation of new degree programmes as project manager, serving as Head of the Department of Communication Studies, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts. From 2022 to 2026, I served as Vice-Rector for Academic Policy and Quality.
I am a member of the Asterisc recognised research group, where my research focuses on gender and communication. The latest project I coordinated examined the content created by adolescents and young people on social media, the creative ways they express their sexual identity, and the strategies they use to prevent and counter online hate speech. My research career has been positively evaluated by the official assessment agencies. I have published extensively in leading journals in my field, chaired sections within the European and Spanish communication research associations, and currently serve on the Executive Board of the Spanish Association for Communication Research. I also served as Vice-Chair of the Board for Diversity in the Audiovisual Sector, an initiative promoted by the Catalan Audiovisual Council.
