Lluís F. Marsal Garvi
Curriculum Vitae
I was born in Tarragona in 1968. I am Professor of Electronic Technology and Distinguished Professor at Universitat Rovira i Virgili. I hold a degree in Physics from the Universitat de Barcelona and a PhD from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. I later completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Waterloo, an experience that strengthened my international profile and laid the foundations for the research lines I have pursued ever since.
Since joining URV, I have taught continuously on undergraduate, master's and doctoral programmes at the School of Engineering (Escola Tècnica Superior d'Enginyeria). I have supervised numerous doctoral theses and research projects and have remained strongly committed to training new generations of researchers and professionals. Alongside my teaching and research activities, I have held a range of academic leadership positions, including Head of Department, Coordinator of Doctoral Programmes, Vice-Rector for Academic Staff, and, currently, Academic Director of the Serra Húnter Programme.
My research focuses on nanoelectronics and photonic systems. I have authored more than two hundred scientific publications, participated in numerous national and international research projects, and promoted initiatives in knowledge transfer and collaboration with industry. I have also contributed to the creation of research infrastructures and have played an active role in leading international scientific networks and professional societies. My work has been recognised through several distinctions, including the ICREA Acadèmia award, my appointment as Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Electron Devices Society, and my election as Fellow of Optica and the European Optical Society. This experience has given me a broad understanding of the challenges facing universities today and of the importance of promoting strategic initiatives that strengthen URV's positioning and international profile.
