Commissioner for Language Policy, Publications and the CRAI
José Antonio Moreno Villanueva
Biography
I was born in Vilanova i la Geltrú in 1970 and am a Serra Húnter Associate Professor in the Department of Romance Philologies at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, where I joined as an associate lecturer in 2006. Before entering academia, I developed an extensive career in publishing and language consultancy, an experience that has shaped my approach to teaching and my understanding of the university's role, particularly in strengthening the links between the humanities and the professional world.
I have taught on a range of undergraduate and master's degree programmes within the Faculty of Arts, as well as on specialised professional training programmes. I currently serve as Academic Director of the Postgraduate Diploma in Spanish Language Editing and Consultancy, and I have also been involved in several academic engagement initiatives, including university debating competitions. In 2025, I received the Serra Húnter Award for Teaching Excellence in recognition of my teaching career.
My research focuses on the history of language, the history of science, lexicography and language teaching. I have built a solid research record through sustained participation in competitive research projects and international academic networks. Alongside my academic work, I have held management responsibilities as a language consultant in the Language Service and Publications Office and, since 2022, as Commissioner for Language Policy and Publications at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili.
