Commissioner for International Networks

Joan Miquel Canals Bosch

The Office of the Commissioner for International Networks aims to implement policies and strategies for encouraging internationalization, to promote the mobility of students, teaching and research staff and administration and services staff, and to foster internationalization in teaching and research. These actions are in response to the URV's aim to place the University in a strategic position for establishing international relations and missions, participating in world events, and recruiting students. The URV's International Center reports to the Commissioner for International Networks.

Currículum Vitae

I was born in Pla del Penedès (Barcelona) in 1964. I studied Chemistry at the University of Barcelona and completed my PhD in the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the URV. I have been working as a lecturer at the URV since 1994, where I have been a senior lecturer in Nutrition and Bromatology since 2008. I have taught subjects on the Bachelor's Degree in Oenology, the Master's Degree in Fermented Drinks, and the International Master's Degree in Wine Tourism Innovation (WINTOUR) at the Faculty of Oenology.

I have been Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Fermented Drinks (2021-2022), Dean of the Faculty of Oenology (2013-21), Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Oenology (2012-13), Scientific Director of VITEC (2007-2011), and Technical Director of the Mas dels Frares Cellar and Experimental Fields on several occasions between 1997 and 2007. I am the URV representative for the OENOVITI International network and the Wine Technology Platform. I am Vice-President of the Catalan Association of Oenologists and was President of that Association from 2018 to 2022. I am also Vice-President of the Association of Oenological Research Groups (GIENOL). I collaborate with our region's wine sector, which includes DOQ Priorat and DO Cava.

I am a member of the Tecnenol research group and co-author of over 60 publications in indexed international journals (index h = 28). I am the principal researcher for projects of the Spanish National Plan and CDTI and a coordinator of Erasmus+ projects. I have conducted post-doctoral stays at INRA Montpellier, the Australian Wine Research Institute, and the University of Chile. I have co-directed 11 theses, two of which have included the international mention.
