Commissioner for International Networks
Joan Miquel Canals Bosch
The Commissioner for International Networks promotes the University's internationalisation policies and strategies, student, academic and professional staff mobility, and the internationalisation of both teaching and research. These actions support the University's strategy of strengthening its position in international partnerships and missions, participation in global initiatives and events, and the attraction of international students. The URV International Center reports to the Commissioner.
Biography
I was born in El Pla del Penedès in 1964. I hold a PhD from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili and am an Associate Professor of Nutrition and Food Science. I have been teaching at the URV since 1994, mainly in the field of oenology. Throughout my career, I have taught on undergraduate, master's and doctoral programmes, and have contributed to the training of professionals and researchers by supervising numerous doctoral theses.
My research focuses on oenology, with a well-established scientific track record and sustained participation in national and international research projects. I have undertaken research stays at leading institutions and maintained close collaboration with international networks and organisations in the wine sector, an experience that has strengthened the international dimension of my academic and research activities.
Alongside my academic work, I have held several university management positions, including Dean of the Faculty of Oenology, coordinator of academic programmes and, since 2022, Commissioner for International Networks. I have also been actively involved in organisations and professional bodies in the wine sector, both within academia and industry. This experience has given me a broad understanding of internationalisation as a strategic driver for strengthening teaching, research, knowledge transfer and institutional partnerships at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili.
