Commissioner for Institutional Support to Faculties, Schools and Departments
Josep Font Capafons
Biography
I was born in Reus in 1963. I hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering and am an associate professor at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. I studied at the Tarragona campus of the University of Barcelona and completed a postdoctoral research stay in the United States, an experience that shaped my specialisation in membrane technology. I joined the URV in 1993 and have since developed my entire academic career in the Department of Chemical Engineering.
I have taught at undergraduate, master's and doctoral levels, mainly at the School of Chemical Engineering. Over the years I have contributed to the education of thousands of students and supervised numerous doctoral theses. I have also promoted teaching initiatives focused on developing methodologies and tools for problem-solving, a core competence in the education of future engineers.
My research focuses on membrane technology, process intensification and water treatment. I have built a well-established research career, with more than one hundred international scientific publications and sustained participation in competitive research projects. My work has been directed towards developing innovative solutions to environmental and industrial challenges.
Alongside my academic career, I have held several university leadership positions, including coordinator of doctoral programmes, coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, head of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Vice-Rector for Academic Staff from 2022 to 2026. This experience has given me a broad understanding of how the university operates and of the strategic role that people play in the institutional development of the URV.
