DOW/URV Chair of Sustainable Development - Return Session


Return Session of the public participation process of the Catalan Climate Change Adaptation Strategy 2013 – 2020 (ESCACC)

On 29th November 2012, the hall of the “Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Sostenibilidad del Departamento de Territorio y Sostenibilidad de la Generalitat de Cataluña” hosted the Return Session of the public participation process of the Catalan Climate Change Adaptation Strategy 2013 – 2020, organized by the Catalan Office for Climate Change (OCCC). The act was led by the Dr. Enric Llebot, “Secretario de Medio Ambiente y Sostenibilidad de la Generalitat de Cataluña” and Sr. Salvador Samitier, director of the OCCC. The DOW/URV Chair of Sustainable Development was represented by Beatriz Felipe, collaborator of the Chair.

The Government of the Generalitat de Cataluña aproved, on 13th November, the “Estrategia Catalana de Adaptación al Cambio Climático 2013-2020 (ESCACC)”. This approval means the fulfilment of the climatic action policies of the Government, together with the recently approved “Plan de la Energía y el Cambio Climático 2013 – 2020” and the “Plan Marco de Mitigación vigente (2008 – 2012)”.

The process was first started on June, it began with the presentation of the draft of the ESACC. Then the public participation process started. This process consisted in 6 meetings which took place during July, experts and socioeconomically responsible people were gathered in these meetings. The process also consisted in 7 territorial sessions; these sessions took place during September and October. The 7th one took place in Campus Cataluña, URV, and it was organized by the DOW/URV Chair of Sustainable Development. Likewise, the contribution of the local population and the “Grupo de Expertos en Cambio Climático en Cataluña (GECCC)” were also taken into account.

The document has collected numerous contributions in relation to the measures that the proposed draft ESCACCC. The return session on November 29 rose how the collected contributions have been addressed.
