Extension of the thesis submission deadline

  • DESCRIPTION: This is the procedure that must be followed by those doctoral students who believe that they will not be able to deposit their thesis before the stipulated deadline:
    • 3 years from the date of registering on the programme for full-time doctoral students.
    • 5 years from the date of registering on the programme for part-time doctoral students, or students who have been registered on a part-time basis for at least one academic year.

Application procedure

The interested party or the authorized person on presentation of the necessary identification.

Via the online administrative procedures on the URV's intranet.

If doctoral students cannot carry out procedures online, they can present the application in person at the URV's General Registry or at any of its auxiliary registries.

During the three months before the deadline for depositing the thesis. The doctoral student can consult the deadline on SAD.

Students must present:

An application sent to the President of the Academic Committee of the doctoral programme.

  • The duration of the first extension is:
    • Full-time doctoral students:
      • 1 additional year
    • Part-time doctoral students:
      • 2 additional years

A student's full-time or part-time status will depend on the status in the previous academic year.

  • The duration of the second extension after the first extension has been exhausted, and independently of the full-or part-time status, will be one additional year.

The Campus/School Secretariat will send the application to the corresponding Academic Committee.

Resolution of the application

The Academic Committee of the doctoral programme.

When it will be required. Whatever the case may be, before the deadline for depositing the thesis.

The academic committee must first request the approval of the thesis supervisor, evaluate the application and, if it is valid, accept it by digitally signin the document and sending it to the Campus/School Secretariat.
The Campus/School secretariat shall update the student's file and forward the corresponding resolution by electronic notification to the interested party. Send a copy of this resolution to the Doctoral School and the Secretary’s office of the corresponding department.

If doctoral students do not deposit their thesis before the stipulated deadline, it is assumed that he or she is permanently withdrawing from the programme.

If they wish to continue with their doctoral studies, they must register on another programme before the stipulated deadline.

If during an extension period authorised by the corresponding academic committee a full-time doctoral student requests and obtains authorisation to change to part-time study, the extension is annulled and the academic year is recorded as an ordinary academic year of part-time study. In this case, doctoral students can still apply for the corresponding extensions to part-time study.
