Dual higher education programme at the URV: learn by working

Dual higher education is a learning model that combines academic training with professional experience in companies in the sector.

Dual higher education is an alternative educational model that promotes the acquisition and development of key knowledge, skills and competencies for professional practice. The model improves the student's employability and professional development and helps to better align the education offered by the university with the current needs of organisations.

The URV implements this model through dual programmes that are officially accredited by the Catalan Government and recorded as such on the student's official degree certificate.

The system involves three parties: the student, the university and the collaborating organisation. All three play a key role and interact in a coordinated manner to ensure the success of the training process.

The student

The student is at the centre of the training process, which combines theoretical training at the university with practical experience in the collaborating organisation.

Responsibilities and roles

  • Attending classes and complying with academic requirements.
  • Actively participating in training activities within the collaborating organisation.
  • Complying with the rules and objectives agreed between the university and the collaborating organisation.
  • Maintaining contact with both the academic tutor and the collaborating organisation tutor.

The university

The university is responsible for designing the training plan, ensuring the content is appropriate and providing the student with academic supervision..

Functions

  • Establishing agreements with partner companies.
  • Designing the training programme jointly with the partner organisation.
  • Appointing an academic tutor to monitor the student's progress.
  • Ensuring that everything the student learns at the collaborating organisation aligns with the academic objectives.
  • Coordinating with the collaborating organisation to carry out joint assessments.

The collaborating organisation

The collaborating organisation is where the student puts their knowledge into practice. It plays a key role in the student's professional training.

Functions

  • Providing a workplace adapted to the training objectives.
  • Designing the training project in conjunction with the university.
  • Appointing an in-house tutor to supervise the student during their placement.
  • Collaborating with the university to monitor and evaluate the student.
  • Helping the student to integrate into the team and the collaborating organisation's actual work processes.
