BOGES
Educational project on the practices and discourses of Francoist institutions in the pathologization of sexually or politically divergent women.
BOGES [INSANES] is a research and interdisciplinary work project aimed at activating the memory of women oppressed during the Franco regime, who were often attributed mental health or behavioral problems that largely did not exist. The project seeks to raise awareness about the importance of preserving women's rights and freedom of action -values that today may seem self-evident, but which, in times of dictatorship, were not- and to extend this reflection to other groups that have been historically and are currently oppressed or discriminated against.
Initially focused on students in the bachelor's degree in Art History & Archaeology, and grounded in a Participatory-Action-Research methodology, the first phase of this proposal -supported by CECOS and the Memorial Democràtic de Catalunya- consists of producing a series of Learning Resources (LR) from which students can develop audiovisual essays around the topic at hand. In this way, the project aims to socialize, from the perspective of youth, some of the episodes of the dictatorship that remain silenced today, promoting concrete practices of democratic memory.
The first stage of the project also includes the development of public actions, such as the first BOGES Academic Conference (2025) and the second one scheduled for April 2026, both aimed at recovering and dignifying omitted histories, and thus contributing our small grain of sand to the repair of a wound that remains open.
BOGES is a project of the Interdisciplinary Workshop on Photographic and Audiovisual Archives of the Department of History and Art History, and the Center for Social Conflicts (CECOS) of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. With the support of the Memorial Democràtic de Catalunya (MEM250/25/000111) and the collaboration of the Eleuterio Quintanilla Group, the Historical Archive of Tarragona, and the Classroom of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (URV).
