Open Water Initiation Course 2025
Seventh Edition
CV Platja Llarga offers a new great opportunity to get started in one of the healthiest sports for both physical and mental well-being, suitable for all ages: open water swimming (swimming in the sea).
We offer, guided by our instructors and under safe conditions, a program that combines:
A. Pool sessions to acquire a proper technical foundation, working on basic elements such as breathing, body position, and propulsion.
B. A webinar providing basic concepts and safety guidelines for the sea.
C. Open water sessions to master essential aspects such as anxiety control, crawl technique adapted for the sea, safety, and orientation.
D. A self-training proposal with a PDF guide, to be followed for two weeks (3 sessions per week) individually in the pool, to improve fitness by practicing the exercises learned during the pool sessions.

Pool Sessions:

Afternoon Group: 17:30 - 18:30, on May 26, 29 and June 2 at 18:10, at Bonavista Sports Complex.

Midday Group: 15:00 - 16:00, on May 22, 26 and 29 at 15:15, at Riuclar Sports Hall.
Open Water Sessions:

June 16, 18 and 20 at 17:00, at Club de Vela Platja Llarga.

Payment will be made once the place is confirmed, either online or at the CVPLL offices.
If not registered with a water sports federation, an additional €4 insurance fee is required, valid for the entire summer.
The course is limited to 14 swimmers per coach.
Requirements:
A minimum skill level is required to make the most of the course. We recommend participants who can swim 1000 meters in 17-28 minutes in a pool.
Practical Information:

Required equipment: swim cap, goggles, and swimsuit.

Optional: in the sea, you may wear a lycra shirt to protect against UV rays.

The sailing club has cloakroom and shower facilities.

Technical Team:
Pool Sessions:

Gemma Zapater, National Swimming Coach, Bachelor in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences (ICAFE) and Diploma in Physical Education Teaching. She has coached Club Natació Montjuïc, Reus Ploms, and CN Tàrraco. As a swimmer, she has represented CN Tàrraco since 1987 and has been, among other achievements, Catalonia Champion (Benjamin category), finalist at the Spanish Junior Championship, European runner-up, 4th in the world, and current Spanish record holder in the 200 butterfly in the Master category.

Marta Morrón, Graduate in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, with Level I swimming certification from the Catalan Sports Federation. Three years coaching the swimming school at CN Tàrraco and swimming course instructor since age 17. Coach of the Masters section at CN Tàrraco and CVPLL.
Open Water Sessions:

Rafa Prado, sports nutrition technician and National Triathlon Coach. As a duathlete, he competed in several national finals in the Elite category, won the 2011 Spanish Long-Distance Cup, and led the national long-distance ranking in 2011. He placed 7th in Spain Elite Long-Distance Triathlon and was 2011 Madrid Medium-Distance Champion. He leads the Flor de Triatló group, a First National Division Triathlon team.
Webinar:

Toni Pérez-Portabella, Level I Coach of the FCN. Long-distance swimmer, completing challenges such as the Strait of Gibraltar (16 km), Mallorca to Menorca crossing (42 km), Ría de Vigo (27 km), and the Bocaina Strait between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote (16 km). Catalonia Masters Champion in 800, 400, and 200 m freestyle. In recent years, he has coordinated the CVPLL Open Water team and is completing the OCEANMAN Open Water Coach Certification.
