Final Project - Analysis of contamination parameters of the Francolí river bed

  • Coordination: Francesc Borrull Ballarin (francesc.borrul(ELIMINAR)@urv.cat)
  • Community organization: Mare-Terra Mediterrània Foundation.
  • Summary: This project arose from the 2nd Social Projects Market held in Tarragona and was undertaken in the 2015-16 academic year. The objective was for the student to tackle a problem of social interest - the quality of the waters of the Francolí River - applying the knowledge they have acquired in their studies of Chemistry. The experience, which was undertaken in collaboration with Mare-Terra Fundació Mediterrània, focused on the entire course of the river, from the origin of the Francolí to its mouth in Tarragona. The quality of the water was determined by studying general parameters such as PH, dissolved oxygen, BOD, and the presence of emerging pollutants. The influence of human activities near the river on the quality of the water was also evaluated.
