TecnATox - Centre for Environmental, Food and Toxicological Technology

TecnATox: Centre for Environmental, Food and Toxicological Technology is a research centre that specializes in the innovation and transfer of technology in the ambit of food, environment and toxicology. Since 2008 it has been affiliated to the Xarxa IT (Network of support to technological innovation) of ACC1Ó (CIDEM / COPCA), and it has the ISO 9001: 2008 standard for activities in research, development, innovation, transfer and technology consultancy. It focuses on the field of environmental and food pollutants, and their possible risks and/or benefits for the health of people and the ecosystem involved in the various business activities.

TecnATox arose out of the experience of the URV’s Toxicology and Environmental Health laboratory (LTSM). It is directed by the professor Josep Lluís Domingo and its technical manager is Dr. Marta Schuhmacher. The Centre has three sections: Environment and Risk Evaluation (directed by Dr. Martí Nadal); Food (directed by Dr. Ana Bocio); and Toxicology (directed by the University School Professor Mercedes Gómez in conjunction with Dr. Maria Teresa Colomina). TecnATox has a multidisciplinary team of almost thirty professors, doctors, graduates, diplomates and specialists.

TecnATox is a centre for research, innovation and technology transfer within the university sphere and is at the service of both the public and the private sector. It aims to provide solutions to particular needs within its specialist areas. It can provide and generate programmes for monitoring and applying modelling that are extremely adaptable to different scenarios and substances, and programmes for evaluating the risk to the health of the population and ecosystems.

On the basis of the specifications made by clients, the professionals of TecnATox aim to monitor and ensure quality, innovation and continuous improvement in products and services by respecting the demands made on companies as if they were demands made on themselves. In this way they hope to improve efficiency in research and innovation, and increase customer satisfaction.
