HR Excellence in Research

The European Commission wants to achieve a labour market that is open and transparent for researchers. To this end it has adopted a European Charter for Researchers and a Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.

The Universitat Rovira i Virgili endorses the basic assumptions of the charter and the code. Traditionally universities have sought to develop career opportunities for their employees and an open labour market and transparent selection process for researchers enhances the mobility and options of young researchers.

The Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) is a procedure designed to assist research institutions in the implementation of the Charter and Code of Conduct. This procedure includes (among other things) an internal analysis of rules, regulations and practices and the drawing up of an action plan.

The charter and code contain forty principles. The internal analysis shows that most of the legislation, internal rules and practices at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili are in accordance with these principles. But to bring the rules and practices even further into line, the URV has drawn up an action plan that is periodically reviewed.

Research institutions acting in line with the principles of the charter and code are authorised to use the logo HR Excellence in Research. The URV obtained this distinction for the first time in 2014 and renewed it in 2018 and in 2023. The last time, after a visit from international expert team who met with researchers, technical staff and university leaders in order to assess the progress in the implementation of the HRS4R strategy at the URV.
