Born in the United States in 1947, Margaret J. Geller is professor of astronomy at Harvard University (Massachusetts). She is one of the pioneers of large-scale three-dimensional mapping of the universe, the aim of which is to understand the distribution of galaxies. With Valerie de Lapparent and Jon Huchra, she was the first person to describe galaxy clustering and discovered a structure known as the "Great Wall".
During her academic life, she has given lectures at more than 40 universities, she has been a member of more than 50 national and international committees, and has had numerous scientific papers published since 1972. She is a member of several professional societies and an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences
