METEOR - Membrane and Process Engineering Technology Centre
METEOR’s mission is to provide the companies and institutions of our regional, national and international environment with expertise and knowledge, and to develop new products in the fields of membrane technology and process engineering.
The centre has two main lines of expertise: the technology and microtechnology of membranes and their application in process engineering with membranes.
This expertise includes: the preparation and controlled production of various types of thin polymer membranes and microcapsules (membrane design à la carte); the selection and use of commercial membranes (if appropriate) to carry out/advise/propose separation engineering processes with membranes, or fouling problems; the morphological and physical-chemical characterization of the membranes obtained using a variety of microscopic and computer techniques, solute transport and mechanical methods, among others; the design of units (membrane modules or modules), structured microunits and processes, based on computational modeling; the application, systematic study, simulation and optimization of specific processes; and last, but by no means least, the creation of software and other products for applying technology and/or disseminating science (adapted to the knowledge of the target audience) in the aforementioned scientific areas. The second of these lines involves fuel cells, and lignin technology and chemistry.
METEOR is also involved in technology transfer and therefore contributes to the increase in technological excellence of numerous companies and a variety of economic sectors at the regional, national and European (international) level. Among the main beneficiaries are the chemical industry (purification/separation of final products), the pharmaceutical industry (integrated processes of synthesis and separation), the food industry, the textile industry (sewage treatment) and the industries connected to the renewable energies and energy efficiency (fuel cells), sustainable development (sea water desalination plants) and sectors such as biotechnology, microtechnology, nanotechnology (micro- and nanocapsules with controlled release of drugs and cosmetics) and health (tissue cultures for transplants).
Services for companies: Study and implementation of membrane systems (development of specific membranes, selection of commercial membranes, monitoring of processes, consultancy on the implementation of membrane systems).
