The university, as an institution, has a mission or reason of being that is the guiding force driving its activities, and which takes into account the political, economic and social situation of each moment. The mission covers the following four areas:
- Teaching: Promoting and facilitating people throughout their lives to ensure they develop their capacities to their fullest potential so that they can grow as individuals and contribute effectively to the progress of society.
- Generation and transfer of knowledge: Expanding universal knowledge and individual understanding for the benefit of society so we can build our future together.
- University and society: Playing an important role in shaping a democratic, just and plural society that combines progress with respect for people and the environment.
- Internal management: Optimising the public resources that society places at our disposal and promoting the development of the people, the groups and the units at the URV.
