Special Doctoral Prize

Application procedure

Who:

Those students who have been awarded the qualification of excellent "cum laude" or pass "cum laude"

Where:

At the secretary's office of the department to which their thesis supervisor belongs.

When:

A maximum of one year after the defence of their thesis.

How:            

By presenting the following documents:
 

a)Application form for the special prize.

b)A signed list of all the documentation submitted.

c)A copy of all the publications directly related to the topic of the thesis (originals or attested photocopies), including the summary, which is necessary for the doctor's degree to be awarded.

d)Your academic transcript, which should include all the grades for the qualifications you have been awarded (diploma/technical engineering qualification/degree/engineering qualification/master's degree/DEA/doctoral degree) If you have not studied previously at the UR, you will need an academic certificate (original or attested photocopy).

e)The documented list of other merits to be taken into account (participation in research projects, grants, prizes, publications, courses attended, other qualifications, etc.) (original or attested photocopy).

The documentation mentioned in parts c) and d) must be presented if it has not been presented to the university before. Each department will see to obtaining any documentation not submitted by the student. 

Monitoring the application
Who:

The department to which the thesis supervisor belongs.
If the student has satisfactorily completed a doctoral programme regulated by RD 56/2005 or 1393/2007, the office of the secretary will send the application and the documentation, if appropriate, to the department of the doctorate coordinator.

When: Before 30 October each year.
How:            

After validating the documents presented by each of the candidates using the document Validation of the Documentation for Special Doctoral Prizes and collecting any other information that may be necessary, the body responsible for the Official Postgraduate Programme doctorate (RD 56/2005 or RD 1393/2007) or the department council (RD 778/1998), convened and chaired by the coordinator/supervisor, will submit a proposal of candidates, in order of precedence, to the Postgraduate and Doctoral Committee of the university.
The maximum number of candidates that may be put forward is one for every 2 to 10 theses, two for every 11 to 20 theses and so on successively within the programmes on offer. The documentation presented by the selected candidates must be sent together with the proposal.

SSelection of prize candidates
Who: The Postgraduate and Doctoral Committee.
When: Between the months of May and June.
How:

By ratifying the different candidate proposals submitted by the subcommittees after meetings held according to thematic area.

Approval of the prize winners:
Who:             

The Board of Governors, at the proposal of the Management Council and in accordance with the merits assessed by the Postgraduate and Doctoral Committee.

When:

During the month of July, once the proposal by the Postgraduate and Doctoral Commission has been ratified.

How:

By giving the list of winners, approved by the Board of Directors, to the office of the general secretary of the university.

Obtaining the special prize certificate:
Who: The prize-winning student.
When:

During an official act, the date of which will have been communicated to the student in letter signed by the Rector of the university.

How: By attending the inauguration personally.
Observations:

The candidates have a period of two months to retrieve the documentation they have presented, starting one month after the awards have been made public.

Those candidates who are awarded the special prize will automatically be refunded the amount paid for the issuance of the doctoral degree certificate, once the Governing Council has given the appropriate approval.
