Official Master's Degree: Frequently-asked questions

ENROLMENT

  • How should I approach the enrolment process if I have been admitted to an inter-university Masters programme?

In general terms, if the Masters programme is coordinated by the URV, you have to enrol in accordance with the general procedures laid down. If it is co-ordinated by another university, you will enrol in accordance with the organisation determined by the co-ordinating university.

  • When can I enrol?

After being admitted, within the period stipulated for each stage of pre-enrolment.

  • If I have been accepted and I do not enrol, do I lose my place?

Yes, as your place will theoretically be assigned to another applicant.

  • How do I enrol?

From anywhere with an internet connection, via the URV website, going from the home page to: Self-Enrolment. In the case of inter-university Masters programmes not coordinated by the URV, follow the coordinating university's enrolment process.

  • What are the maximum and minimum number of credits for which I can enrol in an academic year?

The minimum number of credits to enrol for is 15 or 30, depending on the stipulations of each Masters programme. The maximum is 72 credits.

  • What is the minimum number of credits I need to pass in an academic year in order to carry on with my studies?

There is no set minimum.

  • What is the cost of each credit?

Every year the Generalitat (autonomous government) of Catalonia publishes a Decree with the rates for official courses. This academic year the URV, in accordance with this decree which set the cost per credit depending on how experimental each Masters programme is, set the cost per credit at between 22 and 28 euros.

  • After enrolling, can I change my enrolment?

You can enter any changes during the five calendar days following enrolment without needing to pay the fee for changing your enrolment.
From the sixth day and up until 10th November you can only extend the enrolment. You will have to pay the fee for modifying your enrolment.
In any case, the Co-ordinator's decision on each student's academic position must be taken into account.

  • What are the forms of payment?

  - Debit: the student gives the details of their bank account in Spain to which the URV is to charge their enrolment fee.
  - Bank payment slip: the student makes a cash payment at one of the banks listed on their payment slip.
  - AGAUR finance: the payment will be divided into monthly amounts, which will be charged to the bank account number they provide.
  - Credit card: it will soon be possible to pay by credit card. To do this, the student must give the number of the card to which they wish the charge to be made.
           • Foreigners
  - Bank transfer: the student makes a transfer to the bank account number provided by the secretariat of the Centre. In order to avoid errors in payment, a sheet with the necessary details will be provided.
  - Electronic debit : the student gives the details of their account to which payments are to be charged, using a sheet provided by the secretariat of the Centre. This option can only be used if payment is being made from Germany, Portugal, France, Italy or Andorra.

  • How long do I have to make payments?

  - Debit: from the sixth day after enrolling, and in any case by the final payment date shown on the payment slip.
  - Bank payment slip: at the latest, by the final payment date shown on the p payment slip.
  - Credit card: at the time of enrolment.
           • Foreigners
  - Transfer: at the latest, by the final payment date shown on the payment slip.
  - Electronic debit: from the sixth day after enrolling, and in any case by the final payment date shown on the payment slip.

  • What happens if I do not pay for the enrolment in the time laid down?

Once non-payment has been identified, the URV modifies the enrolment payment slip and informs you that it will be charged again with an additional charge for non-payment of 30.05 euros. If the enrolment fee is again not paid, the process will be suspended. You may ask the URV to re-activate it by 30th April at the latest. This will incur a further charge of 30 euros and the outstanding payments plus extra amounts will be debited once more.

From 1st May enbrolments with payments outstanding will be definitively suspended. This means that they will take no effect for academic purposes and, if you enrol again for the following course, the subjects for which you enrol will incur the charge for repeating (40% for the second time and 65% for the third or subsequent times).

  • If I am applying for a grant, can I be exempted from the enrolment fees?

If you can prove that you have applied for a grant in an official process, and the grant involves exemption from enrolment fees, you may enrol with conditional exemption from the cost of the credits in question. You will only have to pay the costs of the transcript and student insurance, where appropriate.

If at the end of the process you are not awarded the grant, your enrolment will become an ordinary one and you will have to pay the full amount.

  • What other items may be covered by exemption from payment?

You can benefit from exemption as a member of a large family, being at least 33% disabled, an employee of a Catalan public university, aged over 65, holding a postgraduate programme grant or as a victim of terrorism.
In order to claim these exemptions you must submit the required documentary proof.
