What is this and what does it offer you?

  • The Common Core Postgraduate Curriculum is a course offered by the URV to its Master's students across all disciplines.
  • It gives the means to achieve an overall view of your education, in equilibrium with the specialization that you have chosen.
  • This program offers you the opportunity to exchabge ideas with students in other fields, with different ethical and philosophical perspective on science and the academic world.

To whom is it addressed?

  • This course is designed for all students enrolled in Masters progrmmes at the URV.
  • Grant Beneficiaries 08-09: You have to enroll in the 3 credits for this subject as a requirement to receive the grant given by the URV.

Structure of the programme

  • The common core curriculum gives postgraduate training in generic and transversal matters, focusing on the general competences of CITIZENSHIP and CAREER GUIDANCE.
  • The course consists of two modules of 15 hours each.
  • Language: Catalan-Spanish / English (minimum 50% of the hours)
  • The course will be given twice (once in January and again in June) and you can choose which of the editions attend by sending an email, once you have completed your enrollment, to the following address: mjose.rodriguez(ELIMINAR)@urv.cat.

Module 1:

  • Professional ethics.
  • The challenges of today's society: social and environmental sustainability ( the "risk society").
  • Democratic citizenship, human rights and gender equality.
  • Multiculturalism and adaptation to cultural change.
  • Globalization, economic development and cooperation.

Module 2:

  • Finding work (language: English)
  • Setting up your own business and taking initiatives  (language: English)
  • Preparing your CV (language: English)
  • Job interview, with role-play (language: English)
  • New skills, new professions (language: Spanish)
  • Creativity (language: Spanish)

Learning objectives:

1. Means to achieve a comprehensive education and life in balance with the specialization that the student has chosen.
2. Giving different ethical and philosophicalperceptions  about science and academia.
3. Provide training in generic matters, focusing on the general competences of CITIZENSHIP AND CAREER GUIDANCE.
4. Study the globalizing economy, cooperation and development.
5. Study the concepts of democratic citizenship, human rights, gender equality and professional ethics.
6. To give practical tools for job searching or self-employment.

Schedule: from 4 pm to 8 pm

Place: Faculty of Chemistry (Campus Sescelades) - Tarragona 
        Classroom to be announced.

  • First offering: JANUARY 2009

Module 1: Citizenship
Dates: January 19, 20, 21 and 22, 2009
Place: Classroom 103 (Fac. Chemistry)

Module 2: Career Guidance
Dates: January 26, 27, 28 and 29, 2009
Place: Graduation Hall/Sala de Graus (Fac. Chemistry)
Language: English (26th and 27th), Spanish (28th and 29th)

  • Second offering: JUNE 2009

Module 1: Citizenship
Dates: June 8, 9, 10 and 11, 2009
Place: Classroom 103 (Fac. Chemistry)

Module 2: Career Guidance
Dates: June 15, 16, 17 and 18, de 2009
Place: Classroom 104 (Fac. Chemistry)
Language: English (15th and 16th), Spanish (17th and 18th)

Used language

The course material will be written in English. The language used in the seminars will be Spanish or English, as announced the timetable. Students who want to take part in English or Catalan are able to do so.

The material required for assessment can be handed in Catalan, Spanish or English.

Evaluation of the subject

The evaluation is made through a continuous assessment.
There are exercices or practical activities in each seminar which score for the final mark.

     Mornings: Monday to Friday: from 8 am to 2.30 pm

     Afternoons: Monday to Thursday: from 3.30 pm to 6 pm.

     July and August: from Monday to Friday between 8 and 15 h
