The main aim of the doctorate is to produce doctors for high quality and advanced research. To this end, the general aims of the course are the following:
- To incorporate the students into a research group.
- To broaden their skills so that they can specialize in different aspects of the lines of research set out in the programme.
- To strengthen students' initiative in developing research projects with a methodology and scientific principles appropriate to their field of research.
- To foster general individual and team working abilities, participation in research projects, bibliographical database management, etc.
- To produce a doctoral thesis.
The doctorate is based on tutor-supported research (for the doctoral thesis itself) which can be supplemented with lectures or seminars in areas linked to the doctorate's lines of research, given by nationally and internationally renowned specialists.

The fulfilment of the established conditions, as a requirement of admission in the 19th article and 4th addicional order of the RD 1393/2007, is necessary to be able to entry at the Doctorate Program while its research mode.
