Final project - Analysis of pollution parameters in the Francolí river

  • Coordinator: Francesc Borrull Ballarin (francesc.borrul@urv.cat)
  • Community organization: Mare-Terra Mediterrània Foundation
  • Summary: This project arose from the 2nd Social Projects Marketplace which was held in Tarragona. The objective is for students to apply the knowledge that they have acquired during their Chemistry Degrees in order to tackle a problem of social importance, namely the quality of the waters in the Francolí river. The project will be conducted in collaboration with the Mare-Terra Mediterrània Foundation and will study the entire length of the river from its source to where it meets the sea in Tarragona. The quality of the waters will be determined by studying general parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, BOD, etc., as well as the presence of emerging pollutants. Students will also evaluate how the different human activities that take place close to the river affect the quality of the waters.
