Community organization: Bellmunt del Priorat Town Council
Summary: The final project gives students the opportunity to conduct work that has real-life implications and provides a service to society. Students therefore become more aware of the social actions they can carry out through their university studies. This year's final project evolved from a request by the Bellmunt del Priorat Town Council for advice on how to manage the lead and sulphate components in the town's water supply. During the academic year 2012-2013, and under the supervision of a lecturer in our department, the students developed a water management project that was both a constructive project in chemical engineering and a service learning project for the students to learn and develop their competences. And, in the end, the town was provided with a service (the technical plan to improve its water quality). Moreover, the students shared their experiences with the wider community using communication techniques such as presentations, conferences and debates.

Summary: The present study aims to standardize drinking water treatment plants in small and isolated population centers. Currently any of these cores has plants with different technologies, making difficult the operations and the maintenance. The idea is to have a single model of plant scalable, with the operation and maintenance of the same much easier.
