Extension of the thesis submission deadline

  • DESCRIPTION: This is the procedure that must be followed by those doctoral students who believe that they will not be able to deposit their thesis before the stipulated deadline:
    • 3 years from the date of registering on the programme for full-time doctoral students.
    • 5 years from the date of registering on the programme for part-time doctoral students, or students who have been registered on a part-time basis for at least one academic year.

Application procedure


The interested party or the authorized person on presentation of the necessary identification.


Via the online administrative procedures on the URV's intranet.

Students who are unable to make the application online may present the application at the auxiliary registry corresponding to the Campus Secretariat/Secretary's Office of the Faculty/School where the student is studying/has studied.


During the three months before the deadline for depositing the thesis. The doctoral student can consult the deadline on SAD.


Students must present:

An application addressed to the doctoral programme coordinator.




  • The duration of the first extension is:
    • Full-time doctoral students:
      • 1 additional year
    • Part-time doctoral students:
      • 2 additional years

        A student's full-time or part-time status will depend on the status in the previous academic year.

  • The duration of the second extension after the first extension has been exhausted, and independently of the full- or part-time status, will be one additional year.

The secretariat of the campus/faculty/school will confirm that the authorization by the thesis supervisor that the doctoral student has included in the application is correct.

Resolution of the application


The academic committee of the doctoral programme.


When the academic committee meets, usually between the 15th and 20th of every month. Whatever the case may be, before the deadline for depositing the thesis.


The academic committee, via the secretary's office of the department, will inform the campus/faculty/school secretariat by sending the original resolution, which will be put in the doctoral student's file.
The campus/faculty/school secretariat shall update the student's file and forward the corresponding resolution preferably by electronic notification to the interested party, to corresponding department and to the Postgraduate and Doctoral School.


If doctoral students do not deposit their thesis before the stipulated deadline, it is assumed that he or she is permanently withdrawing from the programme.

If they wish to continue with their doctoral studies, they must register on another programme before the stipulated deadline.
