Doctoral management processes (RD 778/1998) - Management of administrative procedures

Recognition of research aptitude

GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS Once students have satisfactorily completed the taught courses and the research period, they must make a public presentation to an examination panel of the knowledge they have acquired from the courses, seminars and the supervised research work.

The presentation is usually made during the academic year following the satisfactory completion of the research period and under no circumstances can it be made during the academic year in which the student started the programme. The department will determine the period during which the presentation will be made, and will inform the students of the exact date and the place where they will be required to speak.

The examination panel proposed by the departments/coordinators and directors of the doctoral programmes must be approved by the Postgraduate and Doctoral Committee. It must be made up of three doctors, one of whom must not belong to the aforementioned department or departments. They must be active researchers from the URV or, if they do not belong to the University, have a similar profile. They may, for example, belong to another university or the Consell Superior d’Investigacions Científiques (Higher Scientific Research Council). One of the members of the examination panel must be a university professor, who will act as the chair. The proposal should also put forward three substitute members.
