The DOW/URV Chair of Sustainable Development participates in the International Year of Chemistry in Tarragona

The year 2011 has been officially proclaimed "International Year of Chemistry", because of the centenary of the Nobel Prize given to Marie Curie. This year, the aim is to raise awareness about the contributions that chemistry can make to the welfare of humanity. Under the general theme "Chemistry: our life, our future," the research, teaching and production branches in Tarragona have agreed to offer a program of educational activities and entertainment for everyone that is interested.

The DOW/URV Chair of Sustainable Development has participated by conducting two educational conferences that took place on Tuesday, June 7th, at the Àgora marquee, at the Rambla Nova (Tarragona).

The first conference, entitled
“La generació de residus i les seves implicacions ambientals” ("The generation of waste and its environmental implications"), was conducted by Dr. Òscar Saladié, lecturer at the Department of Geography at the URV, member of the DOW/URV Chair of Sustainable Development and co-author of the book "Desenvolupament Sostenible" ("Sustainable Development"), published in 2010 by the Publication Service of the URV.

The second conference was given by Dr. Enric Aguilar, director of the DOW/URV Chair of Sustainable Development, which was entitled
"Desenvolupament sostenible. Repte global, repte local" ("Sustainable Development. Global Challenge, Local Challenge.").
