What is a patent?

  • A patent recognises the exclusive right of the owner to exploit a patented invention. It can prevent others from manufacturing, selling or using it without the owner's consent. In exchange, the patent is disclosed to the public.
  • A patent is an extremely important source of primary information because it contains first-hand information
