What should I do if I get an error message when entering my bank account details?

If the error is because:

  1. Account holder information is missing.

  2. The IBAN is incorrect.

  3. The message "Select another account" appears.



1.Account holder information is missing:

When you are on the  page, if you choose "Direct debit, it may not let you continue because of the following ERROR:

This message appears when information has not been added to your financial record. To find out which information, click on "Modify account" and "Payment periods".

a) In "Payment 1", click on "Modify account"

b) Your bank account will appear. Select "Modify".

c) The following screen will appear:

Enter/modify the section "Account holder details".

If you are the account holder, click on "I am the account holder". Your information will appear, click on "Save changes".

If you are not the account holder, you must provide the following information: the account holder's identity document (DNI/NIE/passport), identity document number, name and surname/s. After entering this information, click on "Save changes".

d) A summary of your account details will appear. You must click on:

- All payments, if you want all payments to be debited from this account.
- Only this payment, if you want to make the other payments from another account.
- Modify, if you detect any errors in your details.
- Create an account, if you want to create a new account.
- Cancel, if you want to stop what you are doing

e) If during the previous step you have not selected the option "All payments", click on "Copy these account details" to ensure that all payments will be debited from this account.



2.The IBAN is incorrect:

When you are on the  page it may not let you continue because of the following ERROR:

b) Your bank account will appear. Select "Modify".

c) You must now enter/modify your IBAN:


The IBAN code for Spain consists of:

                * ES (country code for Spain)
                * a 2 digit control number
                * the 20 digit account number

example: ES11 + 20 digits of your account number

Example of an IBAN: ES0011112222334444444444

You can find out your IBAN code by:

  1. Asking your bank.
  2. Accessing your bank account online.
  3. Checking the code on any bills that you may have debited from your account.
  4. Checking your bank statements.

If you are the account holder, click on "I am the account holder". Your information will appear, click on "Save changes".

If you are not the account holder, you must provide the following information: the account holder's identity document (DNI/NIE/passport), identity document number, name and surname/s.  After entering this information, click on "Save changes".

d) A summary of your account details will appear. You must click on:

- All payments, if you want all payments to be debited from this account.
- Only this payment, if you want to make the other payments from another account.

3.The message "Select another account" appears:

When you are on the   page, if you choose "Direct debit, it may not let you continue because of the following ERROR:

a) In "Payment 1", click on "Modify account"

b) Your bank account will appear. Select "Modify".

You must provide all 24 letters and digits of your IBAN. You do not have to provide the BIC (SWIF) code because it will be automatically generated.

The IBAN code is the international identity number for your bank account and you need to provide it in order to make payments by direct debit.

The IBAN code for Spain consists of:
   * ES (country code for Spain)
   * a 2 digit control number
   * the 20 digit account number

If you are the account holder, click on "I am the account holder" and your details will be copied. If you are not the account holder, provide the account holder's details.

You can provide this information during online registration but it is preferable if you provide it beforehand by contacting your Secretary's Office.

To find out if you have correctly entered your bank account details you can check your financial record. If the number contains the two letters and digits of the IBAN and the 20 digits of your bank account, it has been entered correctly.

You can find out your IBAN code by:

  1. Asking your bank.
  2. Accessing your bank account online.
  3. Checking the code on any bills that you may have debited from your account.
  4. Checking your bank statements.

c) The following screen will appear:
