The European Association for International Education (EAIE) has awarded the Rising Star Award to Marina Casals, Coordinator of the Internationalization Unit of the URV.This award is granted to new talents in the field of internationalization who contribute actively to the EAIE.
This award, created two years ago, has been granted for the first time this year on September 10, during the closing ceremony of the Annual Congress´of the EAIE, which took place in Madrid. This congress brought together more than 3600 participants from 80 countries in the Spanish capital form September 16 to September 19.
Together with Marina Casals, another yong talent was also granted the EAIE Rising Star Award, Stephen Orme. The Association grants seven different awards every year.
Marina Casals (Manresa, 1975) has been coordinator of the Internationalization Unit of the URV since 2005. Marina holds a BA in Translation and Interpreting from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and an MA in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, and she speaks several languages. She has taught Spanish, English and French in different countries, and she has interpreted from and into these languages in congresses, seminars, courses and conferences. She has also studied Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) at Master’s and Trainer’s levels.
As a professional and member of the administration personnel at the URV, she has co-organized the Mediterranean University Forum in Tarragona, the Mediterranean University Forum in Malta and the Euro-Mediterranean Universities´Rectors’ Conference in Tampere (Finland). She has also been in charge of the URV’s Strategic Internationalization Plan, under the direction of the Vice-Rector for Postgraduate Studies and International Relations.
Marina Casals worked At Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI) in Morocco from 1999 until 2005. During this period she developed professionally in the areasnof protocol and public relations, and communication and events management. She organized international events such as the UNESCO Forum: University and Heritage, the Regional Meeting of the World Bank, and visits by King Mohammed VI of Morocco, President Felipe González, and other heads of state, and Nobel prize winners such as Joseph Stiglitz, among others.
